SEASON 3 – EPISODE 11

“THE ECLIPSE – PART 2”

Tonight’s episode was written by Aron Eli Coleite and Joe Pokaski. It was directed by first-time HEROES director, Holly Dale.

As I mentioned in last week’s blog, Aron and Joe don’t normally write together – but they collaborated on this 2-week long episode. Our first ever 2 parter!!! Joe and Aron both came from CROSSING JORDAN, where they began as assistants and then became writers. They both collaborated closely with Tim Kring on the pilot and came here with Tim from the very beginning. Joe has been the interview subject of a past blog and Aron will be interviewed in an upcoming blog – I promise!

Aron’s credits.
Joe’s credits.

Holly came to our show via Roxann Dawson. Roxann is a director who had worked on numerous CROSSING JORDAN’S – in Season 1 she did one excellent episode of HEROES and we wanted to hire her for many more – but unfortunately she got snapped up as a producer-director on the CBS show COLD CASE. That was sad for us – but luckily Roxann called up a year later and recommended one of her top COLD CASE director’s… Holly!

Holly is a Canadian director who has directed numerous shows that shoot in the Great White North. She did an episode of STARGATE ATLANTIS which shot in Vancouver and I got to know many of the cast and crew during my time in Vancouver on SMALLVILLE. I knew that show did a lot of action and visual effects in a lot less shooting time than we have. She had also done an episode of THE DEAD ZONE that I was familiar with and I thought had an excellent visual style. Holly met with Allan Arkush and I about a year ago and impressed us with her experience and confidence. She is also a huge HEROES fan and was intimately familiar with all our episodes and our style. That always helps. When setting the schedule for this season we made sure to make a spot for her. I think Holly did a great job. She was also a favorite with the actors, many of whom reported the good experience they had working with her on this one.

Holly’s credits.

I’m going to keep this one short. An cold took me down over the American Thanksgiving holiday and I'm prepping to direct Episode 19 so I have limited my time.

Only one or two notes:

The guys at Optic Nerve created a really cool appliance for Zach Quinto for the moment when Jack Coleman slits his throat. We shot film of Jack really cutting this appliance which gushed blood. It was freaky. But in post-production we found it more powerful to have Jack do the slice off-stage in a close up and then cut wide for the aftermath as Zach started to bleed out. I had recently seen THE DARK KNIGHT just before we started post-producing this episode and I was struck by how they never showed any violence as an on-camera event – everything was implied, and yet actually felt more violent. That might have influenced the decision to edit this scene this way.

I also really like the way the scene turned out in which Hiro pops in and out just as Sylar is about to kill the Bennett family and then disappears everyone one by one! This scene is good I think, because it is oddly light-hearted and comedic at a moment of awfulness. It was rather complicated to accomplish because of the number of starts and stops that had to be done when shooting. Many of our scenes require complicated visual effects, but Hiro popping in and out is done I DREAM OF JEANNIE style. We just tell the actors to freeze and Masi either runs in or runs out of frame. But because Jack Coleman was busy hanging in a harness against the wall during the whole scene it had to be done quickly and efficiently.

Weirdest thing just happened – At the very moment of this writing I’m at the airport in San Francisco on my laptop, writing this blog and a fan recognized me from the blog as I was writing the blog. Plus I’ve never been recognized in public before. Weird. Her name is Rachel and as of now she is in the running for biggest fan of HEROES. OK - shout out to Rachel!

That’s it. I’m done. And now…

I used to absolutely love this show. During season one it absolutely enthralled me, and Sylar was my favorite character by far. Now, words can't even express how utterly crushed and disappointed I am by what you've done with him. I loved the thought of him, if not being redeemed, then at least settling into an HRG-like gray area. But just simply pushing the re-set button and having him go completely evil again for no reason whatsoever? (And cutting into Elle's head? What? Why? He's already got her power.) Sorry, I can't stomach that. I won't be watching the show any longer. You've lost yet another viewer.
re: Anonymous' comment about why Sylar is going into Elle's head. His ability has to deal with aptitude, understanding things and how they work. His hunger is related to that, always needing to know more, not really getting their ability. When he found out that Elle "might" know the truth about who his real parents are he needed to know how much she knew. Hence the going into her brain to find out as much as he could.

Same here, yet another less viewer. Thanks for giving Elle the most stupid dead ever, if Kristen wasn't available I'm pretty sure you could find a way to let her go off for awhile. You have made me simply love and adore Sylar and Elle this season and also their complicated relationship just to screw it all up like that?? Do you have any rule against romance that I don't know about?

So this suddenly make all Sylar's journey this season worthless? Even with you having to introduce hard to buy concepts like the hunger... I've been really defending what you were doing with Sylar's character... and just for that?? Or maybe he's not really going back to his villain self, which would be even worst cuz one of the best female characters will die for nothing...

Great job guys, I've been a big fan since day 1 and I really never thought this moment would arrive, but I'm done, wish you the best, you're really going to need it...

what up beeman? love the pics as usual. My thoughts on the episode..I would just like to know how you could do that to us? Make us fall for this amazing relationship, two people so prefect for each other..and then just take it away like that. I really hope that is all just something that can be fixed. This can't be the end of KBell's character, if it really is.. then, I promise you, you just lost a butt load of fans. I don't understand why you guys would want to do this, considering I keep hearing how this show is sinking. But, I never believed it, I always had faith in this show. But now, I don't know what to think anymore. I hope by next week, I can take all this back and tell you how much I love this show and how I knew I never should have doubted it. I guess we'll just have to wait and see. Sylar has always been my favourite character, but if you really made him kill Elle..then you guys are completely ruining his character. That is really sad, I hope next week..I can come here and say how relieved I am. I don't want to use the words "I'm done with this show" as that was my first reaction when watching the scene.

I've been pretty bored all season but I thought this episode was good...until the last scene. Why in the world did you guys decide to do that? I can't understand. And with that, I'm ready to stop watching.

yea. so i'm not going to watch heroes again after the next ep if there isn't some twist to the elle thing
Anonymous said…
You know Beeman you guys can never win. You are criticized for not killing people off. Well then you kill Elle and people are mad. Then you are criticized for making Sylar less of a bad guy. Then you take him back to his roots and people are mad.

Listen Beeman you guys are bringing the pain in the last few episodes. Bennet and the Haitian being badasses again. Peter finally being a great hero, even without his abilities. Hiro being Hiro.

The next two episodes are going to be epic and I cannot wait to see what you guys will do.

Every show on TV isn't perfect but damn it all if HEROES doesn't come close. Some people just can't see the forest for the trees.

Keep it up gang!

*ahem* Seriously? Thank you for bringing our good old psychotic Sylar back. WE LOVE HIM. And Mohinder hitting Flint with the microscope was hilarious and awesome.

Fan-TASTIC episode. Haters to tha left, thanks ;)

The problem isnt that people shouldnt be killed off, because I agree that they SHOULD, but that the wrong people are killed off. Come on. You keep Maya alive but kill Elle? Seriously.

LOVED this ep!

You know, aside from the first Sylar/Elle interaction this season (on the company's orders) which I loved, I was seriously cringing in later scenes--but after seeing Sylar open her up...after having already acquired her power...it just renewed my faith in that plotline. I really like Christina Lollobrigida's comment/insight on this. (So much for the possibility of baby!Noah though. :/)

I love the Matt/Daphne scenes as well (...I have all season)--Brea is just *phenomenal*!

There were a few glimmers of the magic of S1 this ep, and I hope to see more of that as the season progresses.

I adore your pics as always, Beeman! The one of badass Jimmy Jean-Louis and gangsta Adrian made me laugh my ass off--too awesome! (My new wallpaper for the next week? Maybe so!)

As a completely superficial aside, Quinto's hair looked wicked in the drugstore scene. NICE work, guys! It's almost as good as the earlier Nathan hair of awesome! ;)

*fingers crossed for more badass HRG next ep...and all season*

Thanks so much for your weekly updates and for letting the fans be heard! ...And for not badmouthing those of us who actually choose to watch the show live.

The scene where Hiro saves the Bennetts has got to be the best scene this season!

Also, really digging Seth Green as Comic Book Guy. Here's hoping you can keep the character around / bring him back later.

This episode was fantastic. It was nice to actually see some of the characters acting "in character" again such as Sylar, Peter, and Claire. Screw this "omgawd Sylar killed Elle but they were in luv" crap. Best part of the episode by far.

HOW COULD THE WRITERS DO THIS TO US!!!!
AGH! I'm still so confused!
Why why why!!!

Good episode though... but again... you lost a viewer in me... why oh why would you kill off ELle? She's like INCREDIBLE!!!

anyways! Love your pics (as always)

Ok, I hope Elle is alive... her character was one of the best things about S2. I realize that KB is a hard actress to get nowadays, but I'd rather see her than Sylar.

Meanwhile, something made me wonder: was the scene on the roof of the Deveaux building shot from Claire's and Hiro's POV during the filming of Company Man, or did you bring George Takei back to reshoot, or did you cleverly reuse footage taken at the time that wasn't originally intended for this particular reveal? I hope you can answer in an upcoming blog... production tricks like that are why I come here! :)

WHAT THE FUCK HAS HAPPENED TO THIS SHOW?!

I remember when the world stopped each Monday night at 9pm so I could watch this show! I remember literally getting excited with the story arc from season one. Remember when they captured Sylar, and then he killed Eve? Remember the first time we saw Peter try to save Claire? Remember the "future" story where Peter and Sylar/Nathan fought?

Epic and memorable.

Now, the show has turned into a steaming pile of convoluted shit, and "shock" moments that the fucking stupid writers thought would be good.

Let me summarize:

Basically, the show has one formula - go on and on in long, dragged out scenes introducing new character and/or making the ones that we all hate even more annoying than ever. Rehash the same lines week to week (do we really need to hear Daphne tell Matt that she saw Arthur kill his dad EVERY SINGLE WEEK?!). Then, after several scenes and/or an entire episode, immediately change what you've been building up and either kill the character of focus, or make them go away.

Remember how so much of season 2 focused on Maya? Then she's almost immediately shoved off to the side in season 3. Remember how Claire was supposed to turn badass? Then she's immediately turned into this fucking emo cunt who bitches out Noah every goddamn week! Remember how Sylar is now a Petrelli and is changing to be good? Then tonight, he says that was before he got his powers back? Um - HE HAD HIS FUCKING POWERS LAST WEEK AND WAS GOOD! It makes no sense why he's suddenly being bad again - NONE!!!

I'm not one of the insane Kristen Bell fans, but it makes no sense that they would spend so much time showing that she actually had feelings for Sylar, and then have them in the dramatic "Sylar can absorb powers through love" scene, then have them team up against Noah.......and then they just kill her off for no reason.

Something else that fucking pisses me off? Why in the FUCK is Hiro still on the show? The readers must read blogs and now how much he's hated. I literally hate him! I know that sounds crazy to hate a fictional character, but I seriously HATE him. What do they do? Send him away for a few episodes? Kill him off? NOPE! They give him the mind of a 10-year-old and then throw him into like 14 7-minute scenes in a comic shop that are so fucking stupid that I wanted to throw my remote into my TV.

Nathan and Peter go to Haiti to bring back the Hatian to help in the fight against Arthur. What happens? We get what appears to be some rip off of the A-Team for 44 minutes, and then Nathan just "forgets" that they are supposed to bring the Hatian back and flies away. Oh - and look! Peter is now trapped away from everyone AGAIN!

Was that grey haired man supposed to be Daphne's dad because they never did say who he was.

Did they ever explain what the Hatian's brother's powers were? If so, why didn't he ever use them? Once again - another character that an entire storyline was based on was killed in like 3 minutes.

OH GOD NO!!! CLAIRE DIED!!! Then she immediately comes back to life. Who the fuck didn't see that coming?! She's already died in season 1 and came back. They even cut her open (for some reason) just like she was in season one. The only difference was that Mrs. Bennett was with her this time. And instead of showing us how they managed to get out of the hospital (since Claire was dead and all, and Mrs. Bennett spoke w/ the police) - we just zip along to another angst/drama scene where she bitches at Noah.

Matt and Daphne are probably two of my facvorite characters, but their storyline was SO dragged out at a fucking corn farm that I wanted them to die. What was the entire point of it?!

This show is a fucking disgrace. The ENTIRE writing team should be fired - not just those other 2 fuckers. How in the hell do you take a show that was so awesome in season one, and was basically a new cult hit - and in less than 2 years you turn it into one of the worst shows on TV.

I swear to God, this show had better get interesting with the new writing team or I will not watch again. And that's sad, considering how much I loved this show in season one.

Fuck you, Kring!

What was this episode missing?

Angela.

Thank you so much for all your pictures and posts we all love this blog.

I have to be honest and you'll losing me and Monday's aren't as looked forward to as they have been, but I feel I must see the full arch before making such a judgment and next week looks great - many unanswered questions look to be answered.

But I really would like to stress - the the best of constructive feedback. From on artist to another.

I miss the character development - I watch the show as a drama, not a sci-fi action epic. And we've gotten some good moments over the last episodes, but I there seem to be issues that just get ignored.

Peter and Nathan have no reaction to finding out what their mother's power is, as an example.

I like the people you have created. I hope to see them relate to each other. I'm not a comic book reader, I love human drama. I think when you go back to that you will bring back the viewers you lost.

I adore Frack and Sam. Its like the fans are in the episode - which they we're in the show more.
I'm just gonna be shallow and say... thank you for Adrian in handcuffs. Man said it himself, if you're good-looking, you gotta end up in cuffs. ;)

I love that Peter's back to being Peter, although I was upset to see him blasting away with a gun. Doesn't seem like him... at least, not him in present form, maybe his future self.

I liked Nathan's explanation for deciding to join up with their father. It's about time, dramatically speaking, that he came down on the other side of the fence from Peter.

i love heroes, im still obsessed. just dont kill the main characters, thats is what brings in your viewers. and one more thing, the problem is with heroes that everyone has with it is that in the first season, they felt that it was real, and they could relate. i think thats what u guys should do agian, make it realistic. oridnary people with extronaridary powers living every day life.
Anonymous said…
I completely agree with the above. I remember a time when Heroes was a show about ordinary people trying to deal with the extraordinary in their lives. Not...a story that is cluttered by science fiction nonsense and all sorts of convoluted, surreal, needlessly emo twists that are impossible to actually relate to.

Also. Some people above have mentioned the need to kill off characters on the show, and I totally agree that this is necessary-- but you are killing off the /wrong ones/. I understand Kristen Bell is a difficult actress to book, but you could have come up with a better way to kill her character.

Seriously. Was that way the only way could think of?
Anonymous said…
Clarification to my above comment:

1) Sylar already has Elle's power.
2) You just completely destroyed whatever characterization you had managed to build up in Sylar over the course of the season. Killing Elle /right/ after making a point to show off the whole "Sylar can absorb powers through love!" thing is just... Yeah. It's not. It's not clicking for me.

This episode was so wonderful until the Sylar kills Elle scene. It destroys any love I had for his complex character. And Elle had so much potential. If you wanted him to be badass again, great. He didn't need to kill Elle to do it. Elle would have happily gone bad ass with him. He also doesn't need to cut into her brain as he already HAS her ability. Kristen Bell isn't availible and the character needs to go, FINE. Did she have to die THAT WAY?!?! She could have been killed by Bennet or someone else. There could have been an accident and she's killed. Or Elle could have freaked and ran away. But to kill her, like that is, exuse my Vulcan, ILLOGICAL. I'm really hoping I feel better by next week or its explained or its FIXED, becasue if it isn't I might stop watching. And I really don't want to but I can't take the jerking around that is going on with the plot. I loved this show and only hope I can again.
Sincerly catyuy.
Anonymous said…
Why did Sylar go evil again? Why did he kill Elle? Just because he got his powers back? But wait, let's think...he's had his powers ALL SEASON LONG. And he's been trying--and for the most part, succeeding--to suppress "the hunger" and be a "good" character for all that time. So why did he kill Elle? Why did he cut into her head? It makes no sense whatsoever. HE ALREADY HAD HER POWER. Considering all the trouble you guys went to to make it look like they had true feelings for each other--especially that massive retcon--to suddenly turn around and make Sylar kill her stretches believability beyond its limit. Easily the worst piece of writing I've ever seen on this show.

I don't mind Sylar being a villain. He makes a great villain. But to see my favorite character turned into an absolutely abhorrent monster who would use a woman sexually and then turn around and casually, senselessly kill her in cold blood? Not a chance. Not. A. Chance. I've put up with a lot of crap from Heroes, but that kind of absolutely repulsive and blatant misogyny is the last straw. I've faithfully watched the show live for three seasons, but I won't be viewing any more episodes, live or otherwise.

--A disgusted former viewer

Well, I LOVED tonight's episode, and loved seeing Sylar getting manipulated for once. I hope he comes back with a vengeance and
wreaks havoc on both The Company and Pinehurst. As far as I'm concerned, THIS is the "redemption of Sylar". Glad to have him back. Yay!

And on a shallow note, thanks for the plethora of shirtless Quinto pics every week. You really know how to please a girl. ;)
Anonymous said…
Wow, way to render Sylar's entire plotline completely useless. What was the point of having him go through all that potentially-redeeming stuff if you were only going to push the reset button and stick him right back where he was at the end of season two? Newsflash, guys: that's not good writing. Believe it or not, some of us got pretty bored with Sylar doing nothing but being evil and cutting open heads. If all you're going to do with him is make him go back to that, you might as well just kill him off.
Anonymous said…
It is absolutely beyond me why you'd keep Maya around when she hasn't had any purpose in this volume except to be the object of Mohinder's affections.

And yet, you will kill off Elle. I understand the need to get rid of a few characters and that Kristen Bell is only a guest star. I might be okay with an Elle death if it wasn't at the hands of Sylar, the very person who sacrificed himself for her hours earlier! With Elle dying, it seems like her character only existed to further Sylar's storyline which is absolute crap. I was interested in Sylar's storyline again after being bored to tears last season. To see him be more than just plain evil and ending up in a morally gray area was much more interesting.

Why go through a volume of trying to make Sylar not all that he seems to be only to kill that? I'm not a fan of seeing guys use girls and then killing them...if they had feelings for them at all.

I adore Zachary Quinto and his acting so I'll still watch the show but this lowered my level of love for it.

Despite what a few other people are saying, I enjoyed the episode immensely! It's a big step from season 2 ... Which made me skeptical with the death of Niki, but Im still a hardcore fan and I'll stick by to see the rest of the series continue!

Though Im a touch dissapointed about Elle, no one reeeally stays dead on this show. Kudos!

I really loved this episode! You guys did a fantastic job in writing it!! I'm sure there's a reason why Sylar killed Elle (And lawd I hope she stays dead, I'm sorry she really was dead weight to the show). But yay we got our psycho bada**! Back! I'm really hoping he's just playing EVERYBODY. I'm looking forward to next week's episode!

Greg, if you happen to read this, please don't let all of these negative comments get to you. I know for a fact many of my friends and I are really excited about where things are going this season, even when we disagreed with some developments. You guys are in a lose-lose situation no matter what you do because you can't please everyone and if you try to, you can't get anything done.

I can't wait to see how this Volume ends and where Fugitives goes in February.

Tonight's episode was completely pointless. I defended Heroes and faithfully watched it every week, but that was too much. I'm all for the killing of characters, but what in the hell is the point in building up the relationship between Sylar and Elle only for him to kill her like that? I'm not even a fan of Kbell and I'm still mad because seriously. It just doesn't make sense. I doubt I'll be watching next week.

I used to think people who stopped watching the show had it wrong and would regret it, but it looks like they were just a lot faster than me.

I'm going to repost CHRISTINA LOLLOBRIGIDA's comment, because I think it's a wonderful theory and that it explains everything and I really don't think some of the people posting are thinking about it this way:

"His (Sylar's) ability has to deal with aptitude, understanding things and how they work. His hunger is related to that, always needing to know more, not really getting their ability. When he found out that Elle "might" know the truth about who his real parents are he needed to know how much she knew. Hence the going into her brain to find out as much as he could."

Why did Elle have to dieee? I really hope this is like, an Ando you guys are pulling because Elle? Best character next to Noah, and Noah is only better because...come on. BAMF.

I mostly liked(ish) the episode, but...

ELLE!! ):

also, can I just say that Seth Green and Breckin Meyer reminded me of season 1 sooo much? Awesome. And the Claire/Hiro scene was great. Um...this is turning into a review of the episode, but ONE MORE THING: Sylar not being a Petrelli would equal good.

I think that I get where the writers are going with this, but...okay. This is how I see Heroes. Heroes is that one kid in the back of every classroom who the teacher is SO hard on to the point where the kid hates them, but the teacher is only being hard on them because they KNOW that the kid can do so much better. Season 1 was almost flawless...what happened?

I think that what this show needs is to backtrack, and realize what made it so good in the first place: Simplicity. These characters were SIMPLE, they were normal. They were real. You could relate to them because they were just like you. But now, Claire is like a 16/17-year-old high school dropout who won't stop whining, Sylar's real, base want has been destroyed (he just wanted to be special – but that agonizing seems to have disappeared now), HRG seems more concerned with doing his job than protecting his family and trying to be a good father, Peter...well, Peter's just annoying now, Niki is dead, D.L. is dead, Micah and Monica have dropped off the face of the planet, you guys cut the part where Molly was shipped off to Mohinder's parents so as far as most people know she's gone off to limbo, Matt is just LOVING a girl he's known for three days, Nathan has gone religious, Mohinder's just turned STUPID, and...

Basically, the show just needs to try and establish that sense of normalcy that it did in the first season and revisit the characters' human sides. I wanna have faith that the plotting will get less messy, but I'm just not sure anymore.

To start: Put Claire back in school, stop TRYING to make her be the "hero." Claire wanted to be normal so badly, right? She even SAID it in this episode. It makes sense that she would at least try to retain a bit of her normal teenage life rather than forgoing school to whine, whine, whine, and whine some more.

Get rid of Mohinder's power and have him go back to India to recoup or FIND himself or something. Then, he can run into something there – possibly he can find something else that his father had left from his research, something to egg him back onto finding more people with abilities to try and learn more and finish what his dad started, finding out how they manifest?

Sylar needs to figure out more about his past, that's understandable now. And who knows about his past better than anybody? The Company. He should get an in and find out more...and the in should be someone who's only doing it to get to Sylar for their own agenda. Possibly something awesomer than Pinehearst like, idk, the CIA? And he should also keep killing people for their abilities, because seriously – it was uncool when it stopped. He shouldn't WANT to absorb it, he should want to know how it works. That means opening someone up and seeing for himself.

...ooookay, this has turned into the longest post ever...

Thanks for letting me rant. The episode wasn't bad though! I'm still gonna hope things will go better. <33

Pay no attention to the fanboy whiners, if you know comic book and TV fans, you'll know there's no way to please them, EVER. If you do exactly what they want you to do, they'll still find something to complain and you will have turned the show into servile fan fiction for nothing. You guys are doing an amazing job, and this episode was easily one of the best this season. Keep up the good work!

I'm a strong believer in "Beeman We Trust" and you can replace your name with anyone else on the show if you like. I like season 2, but was slightly disappointed until I bought the dvd and saw what the ending had in store. And season 3 has continually gotten better.
I'm sad to see Elle go, but I was also sad to see Eden, Isaac, Maury and Adam go, but I got over it and I know many fans will, if not, it's their loss. There are so many great characters and it is hard to see any of them go.
As far as Sylar's character development, I understood it to be the loss of control, becoming "powerless" that scared him right back to being himself. He likes the control more than the empathy and knows he can't go back.
I am glad you gave Ashely Crow more screen time-she's simply incredible. Sometimes I don't know who's more badass, HRG or Sandra, haha. But where's Lyle? He could have taken Elle down Lyle style again (I'm still a believer in giving him more screen time). However, I did miss the amazing Cristine Rose this episode, seriously, she's got them magic, in fact I'm convinced she rides a broomstick to work.
And I dug the fact that Nathan got a jolt to his system and decided to help those girls- loved it. And Peter got his balls back, hooray! He should have a machine gun in every episode. And Mohinder needs to hit people with a microscope more.
And as for Jimmy. This guy needs his own stand alone volume. And by the way Jimmy- I'll marry you! Haha. I also loved Seth and Breckin, of course.
I'm also glad to see Hiro and Claire team up, what a dream team!
There will always be problems with the show, but I have faith in you guys and you have already improved so much this season I am not worried. Elle fans will get over it, as will I.

As much as I hate advocating the death of a female character, I'm glad is gone (or, if rumors are to be believed, will be going aaway for a bit). The show was warping badly around her and the Sylar relationship, and this show has enough problems without that. If she can come back and not be the star of the Heroes Retcon Sylar Power Hour, that would also be great.

Also, Elle fans, Maya has nothing to do with this. Back off. Everyone has their favorite pretties.

Hey Mr Beeman. I really respect you man. Sometimes I really wonder why you have to create this blog. All you will get is negative comments from many immature people who will just never be pleased no matter how hard you guys tried.

I understand that as a producer, you just have to do it, no matter how harsh those people can be, because no matter how good it is, there'll sure be some people who will still critisize it. Because of that, I really respect you.

Just to tell you that I love this season very much!

Please, get back on track and be amazing again, Heroes! {Still want Maya back, but I'm soo glad Sylar and Claire are back to their amazing selves}.

I was skeptical of the Haiti storyline but it turned out to be a great one. You had the brothers show each other their true opinions of each other - then work together to stop the villain then reconcile only to have Nathan find illusions of grandeur which lead him right back to the opposing side of Peter. That was really well done.

The one comment on I want to make on the Sylar/Elle bit - last episode ended with Noah looking at them through his scope when they first kissed. Yet in this episode he didn't fire a shot until after they had sex. Does this mean Noah watched them get busy? Cause that's really creepy...

Lastly - I will proceed to not make ill-advised comments abou things that occur on a weekly basis - choosing instead to wait and let things work themselves out. I would hope more folks would view the show the same way.

I don't mind Sylar being a villain. He makes a great villain. But to see my favorite character turned into an absolutely abhorrent monster who would use a woman sexually and then turn around and casually, senselessly kill her in cold blood? Not a chance. Not. A. Chance.

Except he did that to Maya in season 2 already. You can complain about Sylar lacking character development (he does), but don't come complaining about your Sylar "changing". You only sound like a crazy KBell fan who was happy when he killed Maya but desperately want Sylar to fuck a blonde.

I've always loved watching Heroes, I defended it last season when everyone else said it was garbage. After last night I will probably never watch the show again. If Elle's character was over, fine. But that was the most RIDICULOUS scene ever aired on Heroes. I don't need to repeat the reasons why as they've all been stated in these comments. Congratulations on continuing to lose fans.

I actually liked the death of Elle. and no im not a sick creep and please KBell fans stop wishing me death whilst u read this but...when issac dies, i was BEYOND shocked because most of the shows i watched had all the main characters live hapily ever after. so even after Issc was dead for abt 1 eppy i was like "there's no way he's dead" but i got over it and that horrifying shock became one of the things that made S1 10 times better. and for the love of KBell...stop whining abt who to kill and who not to kill. you don't run the how TK and awsome GB (and other people) do and they clearly have other things in store. so if Elle dies...who cares. i miss her like hell. and KB is such a fantastic actress but if she had outstayed her welcome then she would have become a sore tooth in the show. Not every character can get to live Happily Ever After. and there is no "right death" here. this is an ensemble cast so anyone can die. especially if their guest stars. Adam dies, Maury died, Elle dies tats 3 deaths already. I completely agree that the characters need to go back to their simplicity of it all but if these things happened to you then i doubt you could still stay a pom-pom shaking cheerleader forever and not thing you want something more than be just average. Villains (the episode)was actually realli good. (pointless yes. but awsome anyways because we took a step back from the coplexity of it all and went back to tie up a few loose ends). I was actually worried that the season was beggining to tank. but it turned out awsome now. I reallic ant wait to see AP go down. Someone needs to put a bullet in that bitch's head. (and Doyle's..cause i hear he's coming back in a future eppy. so i hope he dies in it. h8 that sicko. those kinda twisted freaks NEED to die).

PS: no need to start dissin every single character just to proove how Elle was better because it won't change anything and also i felt like her character whilst having great storyline was just going in circles in the end.

LOL @ everyone talking about how Elle is better than Maya. The funny thing is that everything that "ruins" the show is Maya's fault. Just LOL, people.

Plus, things aren't really what they look like in Heroes. I'm even surprised you all started to complaint and say you'll leave the show when there's still chance Elle will be back.

They've pushed aside LOTS of storylines for this Sylar/Elle arc and it would be ridiculous if they 'relationship' or (more simply) Elle were over. So there must be something else (maybe the future has changed, but what about little Noah?) - I HOPE.

Please just kill Sylar off the show. I used to adore the character, but if you're just going to make him monotonously evil yet again like he was in season two, there's no point to even keeping him around. I'm sure Zach Quinto will have no problem finding projects that are actually worthy of his talent, especially given Star Trek's imminent release.

To the Anonymous at 6:33 am: I actually was *supremely* pissed off at Sylar's manipulation and murder of Maya. In fact, I almost stopped watching the show then. That's why having him do the exact same thing yet *again* is making me upset enough this time to quit watching the show. I gave it a second chance in hopes that Sylar would actually be different this season, but I see that my hopes were completely in vain. His killing of Elle is even worse than his killing of Maya because there was no indication that he actually had sex with Maya, but he did with Elle. I won't tolerate a character who sexually uses a woman and then tosses her away like garbage.

And no, I'm not a crazy KBell fan, nor did I have any desire whatsoever to see Sylar fuck a blonde. I didn't even like Elle before this season.

Oh dear.

What I feel about the Sylar/Elle story has already been said but I just have to say that I’m praying that next episode Sylar gives a bloody explanation for why he did it. I think I can rationalise what he may have been feeling (his new “good” self image was cracking because of what Bennet said, suspicious of Elle.) But what actually happened on screen was completely and bewilderingly rushed. I never brought the relationship between Sylar and Elle, to force - fed and the actors RL chumminess coming through just made it feel so odd but I really enjoyed the depth that you were giving him aside from the retcon romance.

I don’t want that development that Sylar has gained to be thrown away.

On another note: YAY MAYA! So happy to see her again, so glad to see that she isn’t being ignored. I say it every week and will continue to: give Maya her revenge story back and let her go after Sylar! Damn just say that her memory of her twin and that was in love with Gabriel was Haitian’d from her mind (which will never excuse the appalling treatment of the character and actress but it would explain why she never mentioned what happened to her). Give Dania a great story next volume, please!

Maya is alive, Sylar didn't kill her.

please, if you are resetting Sylar to S1 Sylar, please give him back his intelligence. Angela, Arthur and HRG manipulating him so badly? No way.

Love your blogs, love your commentaries, love your unfaltering enthusiasm, and if I saw you at an airport, I'd try and work up the nerve to tell you how awesome I think you are and how sorry I am that people can be so incredibly rude and whiny on the internet. <3 You are too good to us, man.

Incidentally, I loved last night's episode.

I think KBell is a wonderful talent, and I'll miss the character of Elle, but as other sensible fans have expressed before me, so do we Isaac, Adam, Eden, etc. I, for one, am positively thrilled to see Sylar return to his true(r) form. The guy is a sociopath, people. Look it up! (Hint: it's a mental disorder.)

And if Angela and Arthur actually did lie about being his parents, that makes all of them even more badass. I'm down with that. Not to mention I was never 100% onboard with him being a Petrelli. (I'll get over it if he is, but my personal preference is otherwise.)

Talking of badassery, HRG. Holy manatee. I remember back at the start of volume 1 when I truly, wholly hated his guts because he appeared so irredeemably evil at the time. Of course, now we know there are many different shades to his moral palette, but it's really interesting to see him in such dark territory again.

I don't blindly support everything the show does all the time - for instance, I think Mohinder's storyline this season is pretty much horrible. But even so, I thought his interactions with Flint this week were priceless. Hilarious and logical, from a character's standpoint. As well, I'm intrigued by the concept of "the monster inside", as brought to light by Arthur. An astute observation, I think, and I look forward to repercussions on Mohinder's character development.

On that subject, I agree completely with the commenter who mentioned interpersonal drama and character development as being elements which made the show so compelling in its first season. I think they're great assets to the storytelling of Heroes, so whenever they come into focus in a way that is consistent with what's gone on before, you're bound to flirt with excellence, IMO.

I feel this was the case in this two-parter where the characters of Nathan and Peter are concerned. They both progressed as individuals, and so too did their bond as brothers. (If I had to nitpick, Peter could have mentioned Nathan's children instead of/as well as his political role when he made his point about being more expendable. Seems like something he'd be as/more concerned about. But like I said, it's a minor nitpick.)

Matt and Daphne's story continues to be sweet, if rushed - but so it goes in the comic world, I have come to accept. I'm glad they're back on the right track and look forward to their reintegration in the main crisis.

Finally, while I was dubious about Hiro's recent loss of memory (which is simply tragic), I am now delighted with the turn is arc is taking. All of his scenes this week were delightful. Ando is as amazing as always, and Sam and Frak are possibly the best side characters ever. His last scenes, saving the day at the Bennet house and taking Claire back to the past, were completely thrilling and full of promise.

I cannot wait for next week. It feels awesome being this taken with the show again. Thank you for bringing the goods! And on a much more shallow note, thank you kindly for that picture of Adrian in shackles. As we say in fangirlese: guh.

I have, since episode 1.01, been a huge fan of Heroes. I'm not a KBell fanatic, though I like Elle... but I'm still not saying this based on the actress or the character:

You've got me for two more episodes. I've grown tired of the writing staff changing established continuity on a show that is technically just turning 2 full season in length for the purpose of trying to force fans to buy into a convoluted and disparate plot.

I'm sick of character development being sacrificed for the same reason, and the characterizations of primaries being ignored in order for the writers to force them to go in a chosen direction.

But most of all, I'm tired of the show failing to deliver even one satisfying moment without undermining it within an episode. I'm really sorry to say it, but if the end of this Chapter doesn't show some consistency of plot, some veracity of characterization, and honest character development, I won't be sticking around for the next.

I loved this show, because I believed the characters could be real people... I believed their motivations and emotions. Now, I can't even believe the characters I once listed as favorites.

One of the most disappointing seasons I've ever experienced in a show I enjoy.

I'm not gonna lie; I only read parts of this blog and some of the comments that were left here. Most of the comments were all about how horrible the show has become and nothing but complaining about nonsense, and I have to say, I completely love watching the show as much now as I did when I first saw season one (which was only about a year ago). I think the show is a lot more interesting with a little more sci-fi-ness to it and with a little more action.

I think it's amazing that Hiro lost his memory and had to use the comics to get them back. That gives him a chance to see his past in a whole new light and possibly change the person he has become. It gives him more development.

I also thought it was pretty cool that Gabriel kinda reverted back to being Sylar in this episode. Elle started to push him away from being the boy scout he was becoming and it eventually turned back on her. I've seen and heard complaints about Sylar going back and forth between good and evil, but that's what VILLAINS is supposed to be all about; showing the good and evil in all these characters. Sylar/Gabriel has just had to struggle more than most and his changes have been more obvious. Oh, and another thing: Sylar's hunger was not just introduced this season. There is an episode very early in season one (before it had even showed Sylar or Zach Quinto was even cast) that shows a flashback of Chandra Suresh as he is getting a message on his answering machine from Sylar about the hunger that he can't control.

My best guess would be that something stops Sylar from killing Elle, whether it be his own conscious or someone coming to stop him.

Point is, I think what's going on with this show is amazing. I have been so impressed with this season, starting with the first 2 minutes of the first episode when Peter was revealed to be Nathan's shooter. Love the show, I will continue to love the show, and I will love it even more with more of sci-fi and/or action edge. I'm waiting for a big, 20 minute long action scene with Sylar and Peter flying through the air over New York City blasting each other with flames, electricity, telekenisis, and whatever else they can conjure up between now and then.

I absolutely loved this episode!
It was full of great surprises! I don't get the whinning around Elle's death as nobody said she is actually really dead!...Plus: Sylar is baaaack:) I just hope that he'll be able to hide his real 'Persona' enough to be able to wander in grey areas too. Not always on the run. It's so interesting when he can interacts with others. (though i think his 'friendly' relationship with HRG is a bit obsolete)
I liked what happened in Haïti too. Nathan falling into the Grey Area again (he wants to CHOOSE who is going to get an ability and who won't!!)HRG is as bad as he can be!
Claire was dead:) Ups : she did it again...
And i love the Comics Books shop: IT's like 'une mise en abîme'and I don't know how to translate that.
Thanks for the real Haïtian way of speaking, and not having them speaking in french!
I still love the show! Thank you!

Well, reading all the complaints about Elle's death, I felt compelled to write in here: THANK YOU. I really hate the romance stuff on the show, so I was pleasantly surprised to see the ending last night. I was also surprised to see the death of a character so many others adore. I hope it sticks (ie, don't bring her back). You can't be afraid to take risks like that, because when they work out - HOT DAMN. It's one of the things I loved about the first season. And it's one of the things I felt made last night stand above the rest of the season. I know I'm not alone in this feeling. Reading Fark today, I was happy to see the "Wow, last night was a turn around! What an episode!" So, keep up the good work!

I want to be in line for the best fan competition too! Even though I'll never see you in person... but hey Mr. Beeman! There are many of us :)))

Anyways... ELLE MUST NOT DIE. She belongs with the whole storyline if writers mean what they write throughout this season. She belongs with Gabriel. I hope you'll have KB back by the end of the season for a little moment to show that Sylar tricked all and everybody and he really cares for her. EllE MUST LIVE.

Sylar now has Hiro's ability for sure... So, he can fiz it all whenever he wants. HOPE.

Sorry, but if the writers bring Elle back to life, then it just proves that they have no integrity whatsoever. Seriously. Just because some fans are upset with the direction you're taking, doesn't mean that you have to change your plans for the show to please them. Grow a backbone, "Heroes" writers. What's dead should stay dead (as much as I LOVE Kristen Bell and believe she made the most of the awful storyline she was given - flipping back and forth and falling in love with the man who murdered her father in cold blood only a week or two beforehand).

I LOVE Ali Larter and the writers have treated all of her characters like trash since the season 1 finale when they wrapped up the Jessica storyline with no explanation whatsoever. And yet I haven't left the show (yet). Until all incarnations of Ali are dead, I'm not leaving the show. She is MY "Hero" and she never gets a storyline.

BUT I'M STILL HERE.

Lord knows why, but I am. I think I'll be one step closer to leaving if the writers DO bring Elle back to life or if they didn't kill her for real.

Again: GROW A BACKBONE, "HEROES" WRITERS! Kill off who needs to be killed off for the best story possible. It's your inability to stand up for your own creative storylines that dug your graves for you.
Anonymous said…
I'm going to go against popular option here but.... I think the whole Sylar thing is genius!

Let's not forget, he's a bloody lunatic, but clearly thick as two short planks.

Most of all, he wants to be special. As result, he's extremely easily led. If you look at his interactions with others all season it's basically them telling him how "special" he, him realizing he's finally been accepted and then following blindly along. And all the time, the part of him that just wants to tear people's heads open is fighting it.

As far as I see it, after a season of being a puppet Sylar's finally finding himself (and more importantly, no longer a slave to the hunger... he's killing on his own terms).

Shame about Elle though.
Anonymous said…
Nice to see Sylar back as himself and not everyone else's pawn ... people forget Sylar doesn't want to be "normal" ... his intuitive aptitude is kinda an extension of his personality ... to know more and to be more "special" ... he's driven by evolutionary imperative ... not too sure why Sylar killed Elle ... maybe to find out if she knew more about his real past or maybe he felt like she was trying to make em her pawn and/or she was simply in the way ... only the writers know where this is going but like I said good to see the REAL Sylar back ... I mean he isn't a bad guy/monster ... he's just driven to be special ... to be evolution incarnate ... seriously how many people wouldn't kill for what he has obtained so far and yet to acheive :D
okay I didnt comment right after I watched the epi coz I was really angry and furious... the episode was amazing, I was all "yay Heroes is back, every week It's getting better!"

but them you guys do this to me, Kill off Elle, OMG I was so pissed, I still am, but I really want to believe that all of her storyline with sylar was not in vain. I really hope sylar didnt kill her and Noah is their baby. But by the minute I realize that elle is gone for good, Im done with Heroes too... I dont want it sounds like a
threat or anything, but without her and with all the other boring storylines, I dont see it so much appealing to me.

thanks for the pics, all great!

I feel like I have to post this in response to all the 'Ignore the complaints about Elle; the romance was stupid so I'm glad she's dead!' posts.

Hey. Hey now. It IS possible to be a fan of Elle and her complex character WITHOUT being googoo for the Sylar romance. I, personally, hated it. Thought it was incredibly silly, not to mention unbelievable and untrue to both characters.

Also, I think most of us understand that Kristen Bell is busy with her acting schedule and whatever and thus, needed to have a way to kill Elle off. This is fine. Regrettable, but that's how life is. The reason I am upset is not so much because Elle is gone, but because the WAY Elle died makes no sense whatsoever in the context of the storyline.

If she had to die, there must have been a hundred "better" ways to have her go-- such as having HRG kill her or something. Having Sylar randomly cut her head open was just... illogical, out of the blue, and a little offensive considering that it makes him look like he was just using Elle as a sex toy earlier in the episode. I do sincerely hope that there is a damn good explanation for what he did.
Anonymous said…
Hey this is more a note for all the fans whining about baby Noah...can't he be adopted like Claire, rather than ret-conned out of existence because of poor dead Elle? Frankly, the child was too old for any of the women in the show to have spawned him anyway.
Anonymous said…
...did people pay attention to the part with HRG and Sylar at the Bennet house, or were they too busy, like, watching Jack Coleman pinned to the wall?

Sylar's relationship with Elle was not a relationship, it was him trying to find somewhere he belonged, someone who thought he was special and important. It's what he's been looking for since season one. Angela and Arthur and Elle all fill that role, and he was happy with all of them not for who they were, but for how they treated him, how they made him feel.

And then Noah flat-out tells Sylar that his bonds with all three people were manipulative lies, which, even if Noah was just lying his way out of a bad situation, makes so much more sense than being swept up by parents you didn't know you had and falling in love with a beautiful girl. Sylar is a logical person, he can't help it. The pieces of Noah's story all fit in his mind.

Elle, of course, was in on it the whole time.

Sylar feels betrayed and angry and ... he's a goddamn serial killer. What else would you have him do? Go completely out of character and forgive her?

I'll miss KBell, but then, I still miss Simone, and I can still watch the fucking show. o_o; Jaysus.

Thank you writers, for finally ending Gabriel/Elle, the cancer that was killing this volume.
Ha! I'm laughing but here, re: the anonymous comment to the anon reposting of my original comment?

I honestly gave up the notion of any of these character talking to the other to figure out what was going on when Peter had to come back from the future to stop his brother and SHOT him instead of showing up a few hours before and talking to him. Though after seeing last night and how he gave him that speech and then left him in the jungle? I kinda get why shooting him was the logical choice.

Still even with my theory? There are other writers (via the CBR Behind the Eclipse) that say Sylar won't even find out the truth about Mom/Dad until he gains a new power in ep 12.

Personally I'm a huge fan of Elle, and I've not really put my foot down on either side of the WHY?? or the Denial of it yet, because there already is so much back and forth on this one character.

Regardless? This isn't even a forum to discuss this, though I'm sure Greg might get a laugh out of some of these comments.

I loved the episode, and honestly since Arthur was revealed and had that line "I have them now..." I felt that I finally had my show back. I think it's great that an episode can strike up such a huge amount of discussion and the ones that hate it? Still watch, so really it can't be that bad.

I'm looking forward to seeing Chad Faust in the next few episodes and hope that whatever is going on with the rest of the characters the path is going to be just as interesting as we all want it to be.

What the hell is going on with Sylar? Do the writers of this show ever watch the previous episodes?
I can live with Elle dying, but with no reason?! Worst twist ever.
And like it's not bad enough, bringing Maya back?! What have we done to deserve this?

I really have no problem with fan favorites dying, but c'mon, give them a meaningful death, not a random and out of character one!

I'm done with this show, thanks.

No, he's not. Or at least, he wasn't for the most part of this season. And if his character changes (yet again...) they should explain it. And no, being lied to is not enough, not after the huge development he had.

I loved Sylar as a villain and i loved him as a semi-hero, but just pick a damn side and stay there! It's confusing and not in a good way.

"WHAT THE FUCK HAS HAPPENED TO THIS SHOW?!

And that's sad, considering how much I loved this show in season one."

Good post whoever you are despite the profanities, I agree totally.
The Shark said…
I also agree with that super-long post criticizing the show's writing.

This season has been nothing but a series of character reboots and inconsistency.

Mohinder had a lot of potential at the beginning of the series to be a very interesting character -- he was a crucial, NON-powered part of the show. But all he has done since the show started is give up time and time again and decide to head back to India, only to stumble, by chance, upon some leap forward in his research that also seems to be coupled with a total change of motive (for example, when the hell did Mohinder ever care about getting powers himself? Stupid.).

Claire has been pointless since Season 1 ended, and only serves to whine and whine about her father and her horrible life. I seriously cringe whenever she's on screen right now, because she's too annoying and redundant to bear watching.

Hiro and Peter are the two most interesting heroes on the show and should be the central figure, but they keep getting the reset button so frequently that any real progress is totally hindered. Not to mention that, when they ARE on track, they seem to forget sometimes that they even HAVE powers.

Ando seems to have lost his Japanese accent completely the last two episodes. Huh?

At first I was just pissed that Sylar didn't die at the end of Volume 1, but little by little I became more interested in having him around, and I even liked what they were doing with his character this season. However, killing Elle didn't make any sense! Look, I don't care about her actual death -- I never have been THAT attached to the character anyway -- but as others have pointed out, Sylar has had his powers (and thus the hunger) all freaking season and has been keeping himself in check. Acting like he hadn't progressed to that point after all this is like saying, "Just kidding! Sylar hasn't developed at all!" and makes me feel like I wasted my time watching the last 6 episodes.

And, also as stated above, what was the point in going to enlist the Haitian's help when both Peter & Nathan seemed to forget about that whole part of the plan when all was said and done? Huh? And I don't totally buy Nathan's motives for switching sides.

The best thing this show has got going for it right now is HRG and the Haitian, who are still "badass" and consistent with who they've always been, yet not static in their progression.

My roommate swore off this show Monday night. I am teetering on the edge of leaving as well -- I have too much on my plate to waste my time on stories with no direction.

In contrast with most opinions, I have to say I *love* how the characters never really are 'good' or 'evil', or stay who they are. It's very much like real life, where you don't stay the same way forever.

I would seriously hate it though if Kristen Bell does not return. And not just because she's smoking hot (no amount of yucky wounds can screw that up), but mostly because she is *very* convincing in her role. Seriously, bring her back!

I just want to take this post to comment about Elle. No, something actually different from what everybody else has been arguing about.

What...has happened to her? What have the writers done to her?

All of the characterization that happened in S2 seems to just have been dropped or ignored. It's like the writers of S3 didn't even look at what had been established before they decided to have their own private fun writing whatever shit scripts they wanted.

In Season 2, she was a sadistic, flirty sociopath who had no concept of personal space and didn't care about who she hurt or killed.

In Season 3, she randomly spawned a conscience and is suddenly whining about how Sylar HAS A SOUL OMG (why would she even care about the guy he killed? It's not like she cared about the guy SHE killed, Caitlin's brother).

I am not seeing any connect. There is no logical explanation for how one portrayal progressed into the other, besides bad writing.

And about the scene where Sylar scalped her. Whether or not she ends up living or dying, her behavior in the scene was completely out-of-character. She was whimpering. She didn't fight back even a little bit. The first time Sylar tried to kill her, she was screaming like mad and exploded with electricity.

What happened this time?
Nothing, or pathetically little.

Yes, I know she has been trying to come to terms with the overwhelming changes in her life after the death of her father and her expulsion from the Company.

But, exactly in that respect, why would Elle feel such a close connection to Sylar in the first place? He murdered her father, threw that fact in her face by changing a gun to gold in front of her, and then tried to kill her, too.

I thought she was sociopathic, not mentally retarded. Or desperate.

Also, like I said before, I see no reason why she would be so crazed with self-hatred right now about helping to make Sylar a monster. SHE was arguably a monster too (I think the referred to her as "Elle the executioner" at one point in S2), and she didn't show any remorse whatsoever back then. None at all. Why should she now?

Elle was my favorite character in S2, and not just because Kristen Bell is drop-dead beautiful (though she is). I loved how strong the character was. How much potential she had.

Now she has been weakened into a submissive little girl who makes me literally cringe every time I see her wide-eyed, poo-poo interactions on screen with Sylar.

This post got a little longer than I thought it would be, holy crap. But I just wanted to take some time to emphasize that one point.

Bring Elle back, please.

The REAL Elle that we know and love from S2.

Thank you.

How could you kill Elle off, she was the best thing about season 2 and proberly the whole show. Now shes gone theres no characters that I look forward to watching each week.

I'll proberly keep watching untill Volume 4 finish's but I can't see myself watching it after that, without Elle.

And I know the writers like to kill off the good characters before they become boring, but why don't you kill of the BORING CHARACTERS NOW (Tracy, Nathan, Peter, Mohinder, Maya). I never liked Sylar but I liked him being "good" this series, but now I wish he would just die (I love Zach though)!

Well done to Kristen for her amazing acting, exept for her line in "It's Coming" about the gunsloting thing when she was teaching Sylar how to throw Lightning, but I blame the writers. Also why did the make her less crazy this volume?

THE INTERNET: SERIOUS BUSINESS.

Seriously, no one cares what you twats say.

The internet gives everyone a voice. There are disagreements. However, these people are making a multi-million dollar television show. The directors don't care what you think. The writers don't care what you think. The producers don't care what you think. The actors don't care what you think. The creator doesn't care what you think. Thinking otherwise is a waste of not only your time, but everyone else's.

Anyone with half a working brain knew that Bell only had a few more episodes on her contract this season. It was the inevitable result. If you don't like what happened, that's too bad. You can't change what's already happened. You're acting like spoiled children. Your opinions don't matter. Grow the fuck up.

Oh Greg, you KNOW I could never be mad at you for a second while you're putting up photos of Adrian Pasdar in shackles and chains. :)

I agree with a lot of the posters here - PLEASE ignore the haters and keep on doing an amazing job. Sometimes I get angry about some of the things that I see on the show - some of the characterizations and inconsistencies - but if we didn't love the show so much, we wouldn't care. Heroes still makes my heart pound like crazy every single week; every single week has at least one moment of "Wow, holy S**t that was SWEET!" It's great fun. Don't stop believin'!

Take care of that cold (I bet it's the same one I have).

No. You are incorrect. The most RIDICULOUS scene ever aired in HEROES was when Claire and West flew around Costa Verde. THAT was the most ridiculous scene ever.

I love how all of the 'haters' always choose to be 'anonymous' here...

I, for one, absolutely loved this episode! It probably is one of my favorite episodes of the season. Don't listen to those other people about Elle; I think it's absolutely marvelous how you guys did that. She is like the epitome of a tragic character. I loved how all through the season she was just trying to please others and once she found someone she thought she could be herself with, she ends up unknowingly betraying him leading to his going off the deep end!

I am still interested with what's going to happen to Sylar and I really hope all the character development will be for naught. However, I do have faith that the writers know what they're doing because, while I loved that they made Sylar "good", I don't think there can be a better villain than someone who slices people's heads off!

Still curious about his future self though and if he can still turn good and have a kid...

This letter is straight for Tim Kring. This show was the best in season one. It became crappier in season 2 (exception Elle, Adam Monroe). The third Season just killed it off everything. I thought this season was suppose to get better. This season started off very good . You guys are suppose to take the good things from season 1 & 2 and make this show the best there is, but what do u guys do instead??? Make it more crappy. First you keep Maya around for more than three episode then you kill Adam Monroe. I mean he had such a potential character, did anyone of your writers thought of watching the season 2 finale. Who did angela talk to on the Phone in the end of the finale "you have opened the pandoras box" remember writers ohhh no why would you cuz your head is filled with stupid storylines. Please learn something called continuity or get writing lessons from the Team of Smallville and Supernatural, those are shows with much better substance this year. Lean from them!!! Please learn from
them if you can't cancel this show please it is getting pointless by each episode. You writers don't learn from each episode do you????? Stop becoming stupid by each episode. First sylar is manipulated by mommy and then he wants to be good boy for her then he goes to dAddy and gets maniplulated by daddy and wants to make him happy n b a hooks boy for him. Then he learns he can take abilites without killing cuz he feels bad cuz of killing spree Ns then the eclipse happens and resets the whole show to the next level of crappiness Which is killing elle? You dare show maya in the episode where Elle gets killed, stooped to a lower level of poor writing I can make better storylines for you guys. You have just lost a full family who loves heroes killing elle just becuz he needed to know what is inside her head then WTF was the point of putting them intimate situation, u guys r not even sure of ur own character that she can have sex with him but not tell him the truth bout his family this is even low for u. Apologies don't mean shit if u don't show it that u r apologizing. Words don't matter if we don't c it happening and so far we have been seeing the worst version of season 3. And please don't fucking blame budgets crap when u have shit load of useless characters like flint, maya, Tracy and now Sylar so u will have budget problems. Don't get me wrong I love sylar but when u open up three different storylines n I mean new storylines and contradict ur self and not pursue the new storylines and go back to the old one the character and story is pointless I want sylar dead. The last scene of 3x11 killed the show and put it in garbage. Learn classes writing classes no lemme rephrase that creative writing classes specially you "Joe polaski and ur other partner eli or whatever the fuck is he" seriously I don't know y r u still on the team u should be fired as well for writing so stupidly, ask greg beeman he knows the numbers to the smallville crew go ahead learn something please thanks good Luck we don't need heroes anymore we need superman and Winchester boys

Lost another viewer sorry that's it for heroes for me. How much more contradicting and pointless it can become. Anybody explain what happened to the future in Japan? Any explanation to that noooooo wonder y????? Bye Heroes good luck

So who wants to bet the last 6 or so messages were from the same ignorant dummy and his/her best friend in Jr. High? Seroiusly, I love how all the Syelle fans were in love with this season before, and now they're all "I hate this show and it is yucky." Yeah, that really shows your love for quality storytelling. A slightly less biased fan (there really is no accounting for taste) can form an opinion on the quality of the show whether their absolute favorite fantasy object/viewer placeholder is still on or not. Learn to embrace fan fiction, and get over it.

People complain that some hero gets killed and complain when everyone survives...but the problem is that authors seem to be little in different wave than viewers. Because to kill one of few favorite characters this season and leave there useless and pointless characters, it was always the big mistake of this show. So you saved Nathan (which wasn´t explained yet, btw.) who was great. But what did you do to him this season? And what is the point of saving "Niki" when her character was pointless as is now Tracy´s? And you know what? I think whole this drama about Claire wasn´t necessary. Everybody knows that she is your favorite, your golden girl, who many fans started to really dislike this season bc of her constant crying, whinning and bad behaviour. There are tons of characters who have nothing to do. And you are killing one of the most favorite. I will watch next two episodes and if it won´t get better than I am sorry but you have minus another one viewer. And even when I still love Nathan, Matt and Bennet, neither of those three make me watch Fugitives if they won´t get better.

The misogyny problem on this show is getting beyond ridiculous. Virtually every single romantic relationship on the show ends with the female character either dying or disappearing. Simone, Eden, Charlie, Maya, and now Elle. You could even throw Heidi and Niki into the mix (although Nathan and Niki's "relationship," if you want to call it that, was over long before she died). The only exception I can think of off the top of my head is West/Claire--ironic to the extreme, since Claire is the one female character on this show who actually *should* be killed off. But of course the writers would never axe their pwecious Claire, no matter how much of a useless, obnoxious brat she becomes. Anyhow, I suppose Daphne will probably be next, but I'm not sticking around to find out, but I'm not sticking around to find out.

The writers all need to get their heads out of their asses and realize there's more to life than the worship and adoration of white males.

lol, Sam Storey. They HAVE tried to killed Nathan. Multiple times. Were you not around this blog for those epic fan upheavals? lol. I just lol @ you.
Anonymous said…
Misogyny discussing mouse has a point, though you are leaving one major, pointless character death out: DL! He is the only male character in a relationship who has died, and it sucked. A man who can phase through things was shot in the head.? Come on! It doesn't even seem necessary considering Nikki is dead too. DL could have taken Micah to New Orleans to get him away from crazy Nikki, or to start anew with the whole family or something. Post strike storyline could have then chosen to ignore them as they are doing now anyway; at least then he'd be available for later use. Lord, let there be a retcon.

Really the trouble with Heroes is that they don't know how to pick their battles, so to speak. Character deaths should really count. Charlie's did, because we got to know her and it was all very touching. The same goes for Issac. Kaito Nakamura...not so much. But at least with him, Alejandro, and possibly Elle, you get the furthering of a story. But what did killing DL and Utsu accomplish? What would killing Maya do except, I suppose, relieving some fandom hate that simply keeping her off camera until she has more plot line potential doesn't already accomplish? Eden's death was also kind of dumb, as was Adam's, but at least that had to do with the actors. Adam's was especially annoying, as a lot could have been explored with him -- maybe a "Company Man"-esque flashback, some angsting about power loss...oh wait, you guys have got that covered with Sylar and Peter. Honestly, I can appreciate the need for an economy of characters, or actors needing to go off for other work, but there has to occasionally be another, affecting way to write some body off the show. Death on this show has become cheap, and not a little bit wasteful.

There were ABSOLUTELY NO POINT for Sylar to kill Elle so suddenly and unreasonably. Sylar ALWAYS followed his logics! When he killed he did it with purpose. Here there was none. He already has her power, if he wanted to just get rid of her he wouldn't be all lovey-dovey and caressing and gentle before slicing her head.
He's not that dumb to buy HRG's words at once and all of a sudden become his S1-S2 self. Have respect for him guys! He's smart enough to not give such a lame "bye-bye-i-ll-kill-you" speech after all he and Elle had come through. Don't you think she would at least try to stop him! Electric apocalypse #2 anyone?
There was a moment of realization on his face before he kissed her in the end and that was I'm sure - some sort of a plan. He decided to mind-trick everyone. OR - all this character development of last 10 eps was USELESS and FOR NOTHING. I don't buy it guys.
Arthur said that the eclipse showed who they all truly are... That sums it up best for Gabriel.

Last but not least... HIRO & CLAIRE FOREVA!!! Finally those two come together for greater deeds!!!

I think you should ignore the people telling you to disregard the K.Bell fans and Syelle crazies.

It's true that they are fanatic and posting more extreme views, but I think that they also represent the popular opinion of most of the viewers... I hate to say it, but K.Bell really saved season two.

Yeah, there may be a select few who think they're better than everyone else because they're not obsessed with her, but I feel like this show would have been cancelled without the pull of viewers that Bell has brought. Handing her over a death scene like that seems like a stupid way to repay her. I feel like ever since Elle came on she has stolen the thunder of the other young girls, and Hayden can't hold a torch to her. This might upset some people because their characters aren't getting as much screen-time or enthusiasm. So I think that people who whine about KBell fans are just as bad as KBell fans whining about her death because in the end you are still WHINING about something which has to do with your own personal preferences.

I didn't get into this show for Syelle, obviously, they weren't around in season one, but I did like the dynamic once it started. I mean, how long could we really watch Sylar just be the same person? I am all for Sylar eventually going back to the bad (and badder) side, but give it another volume, maybe? A few more episodes, at least? Not within a twenty minute frame. I'm just more disappointed in the writing than anything that has to do with Syelle.

Syelle fans knew, going into it, what both these characters were like. That's why they like them. So they're ready to accept anything that is within character, and that entire scene wasn't, for either Elle or Sylar.

I love the show, but that last scene was so off-putting to me because it seemed like a cheap trick; an attempt to shock viewers in order to garner ratings at the sacrifice of K.Bell.

If Syelle ending in K.Bell dying and off the show, I'd rather not have it and have her still here, because she is saving the show right now and keeping it more interesting, as opposed to Claire who's pretty much been on the same storyline since season one, and it's barely. budged. Oh, except now she's special. Another cheap way to call attention to the forgotten one in all of the K.Bell uprising? Claire being the catalyst was another poorly made decision, and so predictable (because, you know, I never would have guessed).

Sigh.

I'll watch next week to see how the shit hits the fan, but I hope you guys ignore the extremism and fanaticism from both sides for a second to consider that maybe that last scene could have been done differently.

Greg, I know it's unlikely you need to be told to ignore all the insanity in the comments on here. People are just upset that the show isn't going in whatever direction they want it to, and they're just acting like children and taking their toys and going home.

Personally, I adore the show. Yes, there have been a few moments that have made me go o.0? but I can't think of anything - books, movies, tv shows, video games, etc - I enjoy that hasn't had moments like that.

You and the rest of the team are doing a fantastic job at something that is far from easy to do. Keep up the good work, and know the real fans aren't going anywhere.

I loved the episode (well once Hiro saved the day, everyone in my house cheered when he appeared in the Bennet house), please do not bring Maya back. She serves no purpose anymore (if indeed she ever did).
I hope Sylar isn't really a Petrelli and HRG was telling the truth cos it's so cheesy otherwise. I'm thrilled he's resorting back to evil, as interesting as he was contemplating being a good guy he could never keep that up.
More of Hiro as the character we know and love rather than the blithering idiot of he beginning of the season, ready to risk the world so he won't be 'bored'.
Daphne needs to go, she's irritating and her 'romance' with Matt is totally unbelievable and makes him appear a sap.
Please clear up soon why everyone has forgotten the formula from when Nathan, Tracy et al were given powers cos it's annoying how Mohinder doesn't know and yet surely Arthur or Angela shoud have known and yet they seemingly have forgotten.
Anonymous said…
Can you please clear up if Tracy is being mind-manipulated by Arthur cos it seems otherwise she's switched sides for no apparent reason (knowing full well how dangerous Arthur is). I think that's why Claire is like she is in the future because she's been mind-manipulated, otherwise I can't see how she'd turn on Peter.
I hope you bring back Monica in volume 4, give her a decent storyline and she could be awesome (she has the best and most enviable power in the show, every other power has a downside except hers).
And can Matt start calling the tortoise a tortoise instead of a turtle (turtles are aquatic not land animals)? That toy tortoise makes me laugh, it looks so fake like one of those nodding head toys (I own a tortoise and he doesn't move like that at all).

So let me get this straight....

You have Sylar grow more empathetic all season, then you do a "switcheroo" at the last moment and have em (essentially) use a character for sex, then kill her?

Subtle promotion of male chauvanism, using females as objects for sex and promoting killing of loved ones for self-improvement...

All in one episode of Heroes?

You SERIOUS guys?!

The rest of the episode was great fun, but you totally lost the plot with the Caire-not-dying telegraphed storyline and then killing off Elle in some weird fettish of sex, love and death....

It wasn't that it was bad writing - it was just plain stupid.

Epic Fail.

people, just wait for the next episode to see if elle is alive or not. don't complain just yet!

to KBell lovers, if she's really dead, then you need to learn to get over it.

to greg & team, i think the major issue with season 3 is it's a lil too far-fetched. perhaps u tried so hard to bounce back from season 2 that u went overboard this time round. the transition is too much. it would be better if u slowed down and add lil elements from season 1 while slowly adding on to the complexity of the story.
i guess this is why viewers feel there are issues like poor writing, lacking of the 'i-am-special-but-i-still-lead-an-ordinary-life-and-how-i-deal-with-it kinda arc, etc..

my solution? just slow down for volume 4 wont you? find ur way around to add the season 1 factor in it. in other words, make it go back to square one BUT with adding more things one at a time.

to the rest of you, just hold on and see how this season will end! if u r alrdy gone, then what can i do. bubye.

but im still a Heroes fan as ever before. (:

Killing off Elle in such a way is STUPID. This is a devoted Sylar fan talking. Why so:
- either you trick us or it was bad writing plus mediocre acting. I don't believe ZQ didn't know what he was playing. B/c it certainly seemed that the whole episode Sylar REALLY (like... sacrifice-worth-really) cared for Elle *until that silly murder* Would HRG's manipulative words so easily push him back to the lamest shade of the dark side? You betray the Sylar you yourself created.
- what for was all his character development this season? i dont see any tragedy or drama in him turning shallow killer in one second. It's not our Sylar. Our Sylar was always eager for something. This one looked like a dumb zombie when slicing poor Elle's head.
- what's so bad about two "damaged goods" trying to find a way through life together? why don't you give us hope that Elle had a certain purpose on the show? What was her purpose if he really killed her like that? I don't see any.
- the respected writers could have done a much better job with waving KB goodbye. Elle deserved an honourable exit even if you wanted it to sign evil Sylar's return.
- At last I got who ARE the villains after all.. WRITERS.
Anonymous said…
"You betray the Sylar you yourself created"

You misspelled that.
You mean "the Sylar you took from bad fanfictions and replaced the old one with." Same goes for Elle.

The Sylar and Elle thing as whole falls into the category of "nice idea, shit execution", because, well, post ep. 8 neither of them was interesting anymore, with, you know the whole "they are just misunderstand woobies who never wanted to do any wrong". Nevermind Alejandro or Chandra, or the guy Elle gleefully killed and her whole backstory about diagnosed with sociopathy, not personality-roulette disorder, and being locked up somewhere until not long ago and certainly not long enough ago to actually have met Gabriel Gray, less get all lovey-dovey and "I am truly a kind soul pushed over the edge by evil forces". And don't get me started on the ~THE HUNGER~ and Sylar-is-an-empath-thing.

"why don't you give us hope that Elle had a certain purpose on the show? What was her purpose if he really killed her like that? I don't see any."

You really should have noticed the shows pattern of killing or simply forgetting about characters with potential (see: Adam,Usutu,Monica, the whole Villain-squad) or killing potential with an absolute disregard of any kind of continuity or logic and having characters act out character to make the convoluted plots work (see: Mohinder,Sylar &Elle, to some extent Hiro).

It is said that certain things have to be ignored/sacrificed to create a compelling story. However, in order to be compelling, a story needs to actually make sense.

But before you add me to the list of people who say 'They will never watch this show again', I find the good moments, the sad moments and the ones that make me angry to be part of the entertainment value of Heroes. I cried when I realized Sylar would never be who he wanted to be (though I still think he is a Petrelli). I have loved seeing the transformation, but I think there is more at work here.

Absolutely agree about OUT OF CHARACTER treatment from the writers. That's why I came to dislike Smallville so much. I can stand any killing, any cruelty, any slap to our faces if it is TRUE to the spirit of the show and continuity of the plot. But your slaps are sooo out of the blue, it hurts.

Well, Greg and crew, you certainly pressed a lot of people's buttons with last Monday's show.

You got at least 2/12 times more comments then last the previous week.

I'm glad Bryan Fuller is coming back. He has such a tight grasp of script structuring and plot. And he's funny.

I'm still sorry Jeph and Jesse were scapegoated.

I like the cast as it is, but some people think its getting stale but I wouldn't know who you'd kill off? None of my favorites, which is about all of them. Especially not Sylar.

I personally think there has to be some eventual merging of Specials into society somehow over time. Either that or the Company has to set-up its own judicial system.

Anyway, I too, was upset over Elle dying. It was shocking. I'm sure you'll explain it as Sylar giving into a momentary break down of his self control due to HRG pushing his buttons.

If not, and the reset button on his character has been pushed and he's back to season 1 Sylar. It will be a huge waste.

Anyway, you guys know what you're doing, look at the response. Even Kristin on E! said WTF! essentially.

But good for you. I'll stay tuned.

Fan to the End

Rebel, Kristen at E! is a hysterical ninny who notoriously gets her facts wrong. I hate her blatantly biased gossip, so who cares if she's upset? She's an overpaid fangirl, not a legitimate tv critic.

*agrees with above comment*

She's horrid. Next time Kristin tries to interview Dania I hope she ignores her. She's so rude. Meh, offensive woman.

Season one = awesome

Season Two = weird, disappointing

Season three = such a bloody horrible mess I stopped watching after six episodes

****Thanks for continuing to post your insightful comments********

i am happy that elle was killed off...bell is a good actress and the show wasnt really giving her anything to do

now kill off claire and peter so they can go get some intensive acting classes

hayden is cute, can cry on que and has a nice butt for a tiny girl, but she still acts like she did when she was 10...which was cute, but now she is a grown woman

milo cant act worth crap

i too am glad that fuller is coming back...although i will miss pushing daisies...hopefully the suits will put him in charge and a full reboot will be in store for season 4

there have been some good injokes tossed in here and there, but other than that, this season is a total mess

its like reading one of the x comics from the 90s...or trying to follow a liefield comic

if you start shooting everyone from the ankles up...it will be a liefield comic

greg...you are great...you deserve better

maybe abc will hire you for fables

yeah yeah yeah... Elle died (boo hoo)...
My big problem... why did the eclipse last for what seemed like a few hours? Sylar/Elle vs Claire/mr Bennet brawl -> mr bennet carries claire home -> mr bennet leaves -> claire gets really sick -> mom takes claire to hospital and the eclipse is still going on)?
In addition, eclipses are not global events and shouldn't occur in the same place over a period of two years.
Then again you have flying people, time travelers, and people that can throw fire and lightening... so maybe I should just lower my reality standards.

Honestly, I cried in this episode when Sylar said "Goodbye, Elle" and then just BURNED HER.
Seriously, I think I died a little inside as well.

1. Sylar already has Elle's power.
2. If Sylar really wanted to know the truth about his parents, why didn't he just ASK her? I'm sure she would have told him. I mean, they were falling in love, weren't they?
3. And yes, I know Kristen had to leave, shes a hard to book actress, but really, couldn't you have thought up a better way to kill her off in a way that made actual sense? I dunno, have HRG kill her and that could serve as a reason for Sylar going all badass?

Worst. Scene. Ever.

Please understand, I do respect you as a director, producer and as a person. But seriously, the Heroes teams need to rethink were they're going with this.

And oh, it's not all bad. I LOVED the scene with Hiro and his mum, really emotional. And how they swapped the comic relief from Hiro to Sylar. "Cake?", haha loved his lines.

Well.. Goodluck, I guess.

Hi Greg,

First off I ADORE your blog. It's cool seeing the behind the scene's pictures.

I've been a fan of the show since day one. I'm a 45 year old professional who's had a love affair with comic books since I was 8 and still own every comic I every bought.

Season one was terrific. Season two was not as good as the first but it was far from bad as the critics try to say.

Now this season, I'm having trouble digesting some of the prime story elements.

The back and forth between good Gabriel and evil Sylar has me confused. Sure it was cute and funny at first, but got annoying as I felt I was being yo yo'd.

The eclipse episode were my least favorite. Even though I've been waiting since season 1 for an explanation as to why the elipse is so significant, I felt disapointed. Even after hearing that the episode suppose to be a "how would the hero's react without powers".

The maya story line was a waist of time. I still have no idea why they were introduced. They seem to have served to purpose other than to get Sylar from Mexico to New York.

Even the new Character Daphne has me scratching my head. I mean brea is a good actress, but her I can't help feel how forced her relationship with Matt is. Though I did think the big reveal of her having Cer. Palsey was brilliant.

But it still leaves me with more questions. Was her father a special?

Lastly, I was pretty disapointed with the whole Villians story line. The only villian that has scared is Knox. That guy is ruthless and scary. Flint is a joke and the killing of of Morey was, in my opinion, so lack laster considering how he was protrayed as 'the evil bogey man'.

At either case Greg, I will still continue to watch the show, though I don't wait for monday nights with anticipation any more. I find myself playing World of Warcraft then watching heroes the next day at work on hulu (God bless hulu btw).

This show for me is still crack and i'm still addicited.

I'm hoping that it will get better now that things have been shaken up a bit.

Just a bit of advise from a fan, keep it simple and keep it real. Finish story lines. I still can't forgive what you guys did to that whole Kaitlin storyline. Also stop making Hiro a silly stereo type. He went from being my favorite hero to the most annoying, again, i blame the writers.

Thanks again and know I'll keep watching.
